Is Stress Making Your Hair Fall Out?

Sometimes life just makes us want to pull out our hair.  And in reality, life’s stress can actually make our hair fall out all on its own. Hair loss from stress affects millions of people every day and if you are suffering too, it’s high time you do something to stop it.

 

How Stress Affects Hair

Stress doesn’t always cause hair loss but it can, in fact, play a major part in the loss of your hair. The hair loss itself comes from conditions that are brought on by stress, like Trichotillomania, Alopecia Areata, and Telogen Effluvium.

 

Individuals suffering with Trichotillomania will anxiously and habitually pull out their own hair without even noticing what they are doing.  Alopecia Areata can cause people to lose large patches of hair around the scalp area. Telogen Effluvium is also known as temporary hair loss that triggers the thinning and shedding of hair.

 

Handling Stress Effectively

If you notice that you are suffering from one or more of these conditions, consult your doctor as soon as possible. In  the meantime, you will want to determine some stress handling techniques in order to cope with the stress of your daily life while, hopefully, aiding your condition.

 

Dealing with stress effectively involves finding different coping mechanisms to help you manage your stress and finding ways to reduce the amount of stress in your life. Managing your stress can take on many forms for different people.

 

Managing Stress

The best way to deal with stress involves some form of meditation or physical exercise. If you find yourself in a stressful situation, take a moment to focus on your breathing. Meditate. Take deep breaths in and deep breaths out until you find yourself calming down.

 

Other people de-stress through the help of reading a good book or engaging in a vigorous workout. Whatever activity you choose to do, pick an exercise that will help yout take your mind of whatever is troubling you.

 

As you choose to pick good habits to help reduce the amount of stress in your life, don’t forget to practice healthy eating. Changing the way you eat for the better will lead to a healthier body and mind, as you will be less prone to anxiety.

 

Reducing Stress

The next part of stress management involves reducing stress. If you find yourself suffering from high levels of stress, take a step back to analyze your life. Determining all of the stressors in your life isn’t easy, but it is necessary.  Take some time to write out a list of what gives you anxiety in your day to day life. Are you working too much? Do you find certain relationships to be emotionally taxing or certain parts of your life to be triggering anxiety?

 

When it comes to cutting out stress, you will need to do what’s best for you, even if it’s difficult. If you want to see yourself have a happier, hair loss free life, you will have to make the hard decisions when it comes to de-stressing your life.

 

Dealing with Hair Loss

Anxiety can lead to hair loss which will cause more stress. This catch-22 may seem like a never ending cycle, but it’s not. If you are suffering from hair loss, there many things you can do to treat your condition as your hair grows back.

 

If you find yourself suffering from stress related hair loss, do your best to seek treatment, cut out stressors, and find constructive ways to manage your stress and your emotions. Believe you can choose how you react to your stress and through hard work and patience, you will be able to change the outcome.
